The Many Sides of Change
Recently, I heard a story about a woman who was marrying her long-term boyfriend and moving in with him. She told me she wanted to be with him. She said she always saw herself getting married, and she hoped they would have kids someday.
Happy story, right?
YES. It is.
AND
She also felt sad to leave the season she had come to love that included solo evenings, space for her eclectic furniture, and an apartment that had become her home. She felt unsure about how her day-to-day would change once she lived with her fiancé. She even felt some self-doubt. She asked herself - Am I doing the right thing?
CHANGE affects us all in many different ways, a lot of which has to do with our personality, neurotype, and our personal histories.
I would like to invite you to be compassionate with yourself if you notice many different, maybe even contradictory, feelings when you are going through a change. Change isn’t always our choice, and it isn’t one-dimensional. It isn’t all good or all bad. There is no right way to feel about change, even if it is a change you had always aspired to.
Let’s let go of the pressure to control our feelings about change. Let’s let the feelings, let’s let ourselves, just be.
